This is a museum for Kawanabe Kyosai, who is a great Ukiyoe Painter. The great granddaughter is an owner.
A little off the beaten path, but if you're a Kyousai fan, this place is totally worth it. It's a small museum that seems more like an outgrowth of the Kyousai family archives. Managed by who I believe is the granddaughter of Kyousui, Kyousai's daughter.
Love the old yokkai works
Surprisingly i'll went here with my sister. Its a very very chill place for me.
This is an artist and museum that I want to be better known for!
I went there to see the special animal exhibit, and it seems that Kuniyoshi was a disciple of Kuniyoshi, so there are lots of comical drawings of frogs, elephants, foxes, raccoon dogs, etc. that give you a sense of his lineage.
Not only that, but I really enjoyed the sketches, from carefully drawn ones to loose drawings.
I bought the booklet (picture book?) of the special exhibition picture book Takagami because it was cute and useful as a reference. I am satisfied with the many pictures that were not on display.
The exhibition room is large and has coin lockers. The second and third exhibition rooms have chairs and samples of items for sale at the museum shop, so you can relax and browse.
The museum shop also doubles as a cafe, but there was only one small round table for one person, so it's best to go there if you're lucky and there's one empty space.
There is a face photo spot in front of the entrance.
There are no permanent exhibits and the exhibits change regularly, so I would like to go again.
Buses are provided, but the number of buses is one per hour.
It's not too difficult to walk from Nishi-Kawaguchi Station unless the temperature is harsh.
This is a small art museum tucked away in a residential area. About 15 minutes walk from Nishikawaguchi Station.
There is one community bus per hour from Warabi Station. It's not large, but people who like it can enjoy it.
Kyosai Kawanabe, an ukiyo-e artist and Japanese painter who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period.
Art museum. This is a private art museum founded by his great-grandson, Kusumi Kawanabe. The museum has exhibition rooms 1 to 3, none of which are large. Photography is prohibited inside. Kyosai's valuable works are exhibited in each project. Admission fee: General 600 yen / High school and university 500 yen / Elementary and junior high school 300 yen. There is a museum shop next door that sells various items related to Kyosai. Tea is also available.
This museum was started by Kyosai Kawanabe's great-grandson (an ophthalmologist), and perhaps because it was occupied by a former ophthalmologist, it is located in a corner of a residential area, and is a building that is completely different from a typical museum and is unfamiliar to us. I don't mind this as it doesn't hinder the art appreciation, and the staff are very responsive, but the exhibition volume is quite small and I don't think the 600 yen admission fee is worth it. Even if you watch it carefully, you will be able to finish it in 20 minutes. Although it has many unique features and is a museum with a history of over 40 years, I don't think it's a place worth going out of your way to visit.
